From business opportunities to tax incentives, there are a number of factors that make some states more appealing to America's high earners than others.

SmartAsset wanted to know which states are gaining the most high-income households, so they analyzed IRS data from the 2021-2022 tax year to find out where households making at least $200,000 a year are moving. The net inflow per state was calculated by comparing the number of qualifying households moving in and out.

Florida gained by far the most high earners, with 29,771 high-income households moving to the state. Following much further behind, but still in second place, is Texas, with a net inflow of 8,260.

The wealthy are also flocking to North Carolina and South Carolina, which saw 5,792 and 5,270 households move in, respectively.

When it comes to the states losing the most high earners, California and New York top the list. California lost a total of 24,670 high-income households, while New York lost 12,040.
